ServiceMaster EMT Featured in Fox 5 Surprise Squad for Sanitation and Cleaning Services
With a commitment to excellence and service, ServiceMaster EMT loves giving back to our community! This week, ServiceMaster EMT was featured in the Fox 5 Surprise Squad, a Las Vegas’ news team committed to helping families and individuals in need.
This video featured a World War II veteran couple who just bought a house, looking to start a new life as home owners. Our crew sanitized and cleaned the home during a renovation project to provide a safe and clean environment before the couple moved in.
The Need for Help from a WWII Veteran Couple
When a Las Vegas couple in their 90’s set starting a new life as their marriage goal, a caring friend reached out to the Fox 5 Surprise Squad. William and Inez Florence were about to celebrate their 72nd wedding anniversary after raising 4 kids, a number of grandchildren, William serving in World War II and Inez nursing him back to health. They had been living in an assisted living facility before making the decision to move into their own home, starting over as new homeowners in their 90’s.
Christianne Yates, the friend who wrote the letter to the Fox 5 Squad requested a home renovation to accommodate William’s wheelchair after the couple just purchased the home. It was in a livable condition before the renovation, however, was outdated and could definitely benefit from some new appliances and TLC.
Fox 5 Surprise Squad Reaches Out to Local Businesses for Help
Fox 5 Surprise Squad reached out to a number of contracting partners to widen doorways and bathrooms, adding wheelchair ramps, new appliances, sink, countertops, and flooring, among other significant improvements. The contractors each volunteered their time to help the family, and it really shows after the home was finished!
Fox 5 Surprise Squad and more friends called on a number of other contractors, including Mrs. Patio, Two Men and a Truck, Walker Furniture, Zeroez Cleaning, Penta Building Group, and OF COURSE, ServiceMaster EMT.

The Florences Moving Into Their New Home
After each of the updates, the Florences were expecting to get the keys to their new home, but they had no idea it had been updated to help William move throughout the house. They pulled up, astonished at the red carpet treatment, all of their friends and family, and the Fox 5 Surprise Squad. Christine Maddela from Fox 5 Surprise Squad thanked the couple for their service, saying “we wanted to make sure that coming home and cutting the red ribbon is going to be special for you today.
The couple was amazed at what they had seen, finding the kitchen, living room, bedroom, dining room and bathrooms all renovated, saying “all this is just overwhelming. I can’t even explain it. I’m dumbfounded. This is the most beautiful thing that has ever happened to us in our 30 years here…we love Las Vegas…Las Vegas has come through for us.”
All renovations, furniture, decoration AND cleaning service was donated specifically to the couple. To add icing to the cake, the couple had also received free groceries for a year from Albertson’s, utilities for a year from United Nissan and a $2,500 check from the American Warriors Initiative.
Finishing the Good Deed
Seeing the home one last time, ServiceMaster EMT gifted the couple with some cleaning supplies as a “thank you” for their service and perseverance and to wish them the best in their new lives as homeowners.
The couple said, “we never expected for anything like this to happen to us. Never. This is to show the world of what you can do. This can be done, if you just keep doing it. Keep doing it and don’t give up. You have to believe in each other.”
